Benefits of a fall herbicide application

Problem

In the fall, winter annuals compete with the establishing winter wheat crop and have a head start next season, making spring weed control more difficult.

Let's talk problem weeds: Wild oats

Problem

Wild oats are an annual grassy weed many associate with the Prairies. Group 1 resistant populations have been found in Ontario, eliminating the primary control option for wild oats in spring cereals.

Let's talk problem weeds: Scentless chamomile

Problem

Scentless Chamomile emerges throughout the growing season and can change its lifecycle depending on germination date, growing as an annual, biennial or perennial. Season long weed control is required to manage this problem weed.

Let's talk problem weeds: Common chickweed

Problem

A single common chickweed plant can produce up to 20,000 seeds, can overwinter along with winter wheat, and can be very competitive. If left unchecked, Common Chickweed can lead to yield losses of up to 32% in winter wheat.

Problem: Soybean development and yield can be affected by weeds right from the start.  Developing soybeans are heavily influenced by what’s going on around them and can sense the presence of weeds even before they’re emerged.

Beneficials: The enemy of my enemy is my friend

Question

Why would I need help from beneficial insects if I am applying an insecticide? Won’t the Western bean cutworm be killed by the insecticide?

Problem

It can be difficult to decide when to spray insecticide and which fields are at highest risk of WBC infestation that can hurt yield and increase DON levels.

Supporting agriculture’s not-so-secret society

4-H is the not-so-secret society of agriculture.

Those who grew up in the city often don’t understand but the power of the 4-H network isn’t a secret to the adults who showed a steer when they were a kid or took part in a 4-H public speaking competition. They know that being a 4-H member sets you up for success.

FMC Pre-School - AGRC*101 Fall 2020 Weed Science Webinar

As soon as harvest is done, winter annual weeds start their growth cycle all over again and perennials move nutrients to the roots to build up reserves for the following season. The right approach to fall weed control can set growers up for success next spring, so let’s go back to school to learn how fall weeds can impact your fields! Watch this webinar for a product-agnostic approach to the value of weed management in the fall.
