FMC, apart from being a cutting-edge technology innovator, it is also committed towards the growth and development of rural communities in India by supporting farmers with the help of customized and sustainable farming solutions.

FMC is committed to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.1 which seeks to secure safe and affordable drinking water for all by 2030. As per a UN report India ranks 120th among 122 countries in the Water Quality Index, and approximately 70 percent of the water supply in India is threatened with contamination. Inadequate safe drinking water in India impacts healthcare, social, and economic sectors of the nation.

Over 163 Million people in India do not get potable drinking water to meet their daily needs. As a result, nearly 400 million people in India are affected by waterborne diseases and over 500 children die of diarrhea each day. Over half a billion dollars’ worth of workdays are lost each year due to waterborne illnesses, in addition to the productivity lost in the millions of hours that are spent by women and girls to fetch water from distant and often unsafe locations. Water problem is rather acute among the 70% of the population living in rural villages, more so in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

FMC has taken up a multi-year program - SAMARTH to make potable water accessible to rural communities in India. SAMARTH (Samarth is a Hindi word that means Empowered) started from Uttar Pradesh in 2019 and is now being expanded to more states in India.
