FMC donates over $77,000 to 31 organizations in Western Canada

Producers chose FMC products and FMC chose to give back to communities through the Clean Fields, Community Yields program

MISSISSAUGA, ON – April 12, 2021 - COVID-19 lockdowns hit the services we depend on and the organizations we love in our communities. Over 200 agriculture retailers, thousands of farmers, and FMC decided to stand up and do something about it.

The Clean Fields, Community Yields program was born in April 2020 when FMC staff saw a need to support community organizations and projects affected by COVID-19 disruptions. FMC account managers asked retailers to choose worthy charities to receive funding from a portion of FMC fall herbicide sold locally before October 31.

“FMC staff are deeply connected to the communities in which they live across the Prairies,” says Darren Dillenbeck, country manager at FMC. “We knew right away that local sports leagues, health services, fundraising projects and other organizations all needed a boost with everything that was happening in 2020.”

FMC ended up sending 31 cheques totaling over $77,000 once the totals were calculated. Many community-led projects were chosen by local retailers to receive money, such as the food banks, local rink improvements, 4-H clubs and community water park initiatives. A portion of the money also went to larger organizations like HALO, STARS air ambulance and the Do More Ag Foundation that rely on fundraising to provide much needed support in rural towns.

“On behalf of everyone at STARS, and the patients who need our help, thank you for this generous gift,” says Andrea Robertson, president and CEO of STARS. “We count on donations throughout the year to fund our critical care operations and now, during this pandemic, it’s no different.”

FMC also gave a $5,000 bonus to the charity with the most votes through a special website set up for the campaign. Over 1,200 people across Western Canada voted and the winner was the Kale Porteous Splash Park in Bow Island, AB.
