Rice
Rice (Oryza sativa) as one of the oldest cereal grains in the world is an edible starchy cereal grain that belongs to the grass plant (family Poaceae). It is a monocot usually grown as an annual crop although in some tropical areas it survives as a perennial plant thru the practice of ratooning.
Philippines is one of the top 10 rice producers in the world with around 4.8 million hectares of rice area harvested with mostly irrigated areas accounted for about seventy-one percent. Rice is what many farmers grow as it is considered a staple food in the Philippines which account for 35 percent of the average calorie intake of the population.
