Corn

Corn, (Zea mays), has an edible grain that belongs to the grass family (Poaceae) originated in America and one of the most distributed world's food crops. The plant is a tall annual grass with an erect and solid stem and large narrow leaves which have wavy margin and spaced alternately on opposite sides of the stem.

Corn is one of the most economically important crops in the Philippines with around 2.5 million hectares of arable land is cultivated to grow corn. Varieties of yellow and white corn are the most popular. Corn has many uses including livestock feeds, human food, biofuel and as raw material in the industry. It is rich in fiber, contains valuable B vitamins and essential minerals.
