Shaun Moran is the winner of this year’s $30,000 FMC Let’s Talk Shop contest.
The Moran family, including Shaun, his wife Mary-Ellen, and their three sons and daughter, farm 18,000 acres just west of Portage la Prairie. The farm was established by Shaun’s great-grandfather in 1906.
The Morans farm grains and oilseeds including soybeans, corn, cereals and more niche crops, like coriander grown for export.
New office at their grain storage and drying facility
The Morans plan to use the $30,000 to build an 18x36 building to house an office with all the electronics, electrical service, moisture tester, and seed samples. The office will be at their new grain drying and storage complex with new 100,000-bushel bins.
Money will fuel growth of sixth-generation farm
Shaun and Mary-Ellen’s grandkids will be the sixth generation to farm the land. The family built their first grain dryer on the home farm in 1980 but the farm has grown exponentially since then. The $30,000 prize will allow the family to put the finishing touches on the expansion.

FMC will follow Shaun and his family’s building project. We’ll post periodic updates on the FMC social channels (@FMCAgCanada).
The FMC Let’s Talk Shop contest is open to farmers across Canada. Last year, Ryan Jungwirth of Cudworth, SK won the $30,000 prize. He poured concrete to convert a shed on the home farm into a shop. In 2021, a Weyburn, SK family won the prize and used the money to build a shop office on the farm.
