Mango Leafhopper
Mango leafhoppers (Idioscopus clypealis) was previously considered as the most destructive insect pest of mango; widely distributed in Asia.
What are the symptoms
Withering, drying and falling of individual flowers due to sucking of plant sap; fruit fails to develop under severe infestation
Insect pest secretes 'honeydew' which induces the growth of 'sooty mold'.
Impact to the crop
High infestation in panicles during flower development may cause yield reduction up to 100%.
How to control
√ Installation of light traps at the early stage of flower development to trap and kill adults ready to lay eggs
√ Application of insecticides early in the season
