Diamondback Moth
Diamondback moth or DBM (Plutella xylostella) is a widely distributed pest of crucifers that causes more serious damage during summer.
What are the symptoms
The larva is a surface feeder and with chewing mouth part, the insect eats voraciously on the leaves leaving papery epidermis intact.
Impact to the crop
Feeding damage may cause up to 100% yield loss due to decrease in both quantity and quality
How to control
√ Intercropping, trap cropping, sprinkler irrigation rotation and cultivation are cultural practices that can help in avoiding increase in pest population
√ IPM, sex pheromone techniques is applicable to inhibit reproduction, use of natural enemies and biological control agents
√ Application of effective and registered insecticides
