Soil Problem - Structural Decline
Soil structure describes how mineral particles and organic matter are arranged to form aggregates, as well as how pore spaces are arranged within and between aggregates. Soil structure is the clods and aggregates that you can see rather than soil texture which you can feel.
What are the symptoms

Impact to the crop

Soil structural decline reduces infiltration, seedling establishment and root growth.
How to control

1. Increase soil organic matter, or apply organic amendments, for example, manure.
2. Minimise soil disturbance, for example, practice minimum or no-till
3. Reduce sodicity in the topsoil layer by gypsum application, increasing organic matter and no-till practice
