Fruitlet Core Rot (FCR)
Fruitlet core rot (FCR) is one of the major postharvest diseases of pineapple, susceptibility of pineapple to the disease depends on its cultivar. The causal pathogen for Fruitlet Core Rot (FCR) is Penicillium funicolosum and Fusarioum guttiforme.
What are the symptoms
√ Fruitlets fail to color, also known as "green eye"
√ If severe infestation, fruitlets become brown and sunken as the fruits ripen
√ Browning of the center of the fruitlets that extend to the core
Impact to the crop
The causal pathogen infects the developing fruit from stages between initiation and flower opening. Damage of infection causes significant decrease in the quality of the produce
How to control
√ Use of resistant cultivars
√ Apply registered fungicides directly into the opening of the terminal leaves from emerging inflorescence
