Onion

Onion (Allium cepa ) also known as the bulb onion or common onion belongs to the family Amaryllidaceae under Genus Allium to which garlic, leek, chive belongs too.

Onions are usually served cooked, as a vegetable or part of a prepared savory dish, but can also be eaten raw or used to make pickles. They are pungent when chopped and contain certain chemical substances which irritate the eyes.
