Larvae feed on the terminal shoot, producing lesions, curling and breaking of young leaves.
Insect feeding leads to wilting, drying and rotting of central shoots.

Infested seedlings are stunted, wilted or may produce side tillers.
How to control

√ Planting earlier in the season to avoid high infestation
√ Removal of alternate host plants or maintaining a clean culture
√ Seed treatment like carbofuran (Marshal 25ST) before planting
√ Use of registered and recommended foliar applied insecticides
