Sugarcane

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) belongs to the grass family, Poaceae, which is a perennial grass that grows 2-6 meters tall with fibrous stalks that are rich in sucrose used for sugar production. Climate, Soil conditions, irrigation and fertilization, varieties are the factors to consider in planting sugarcane.

In the Philippines, the top producer of sugarcane is Western Visayas with more than 50% share of the total sugarcane production.
