Controlling annual ryegrass and other weeds in winter crops, in the central New South Wales region, has become a lot more challenging according to independent agronomist, Glenn Shepherd. Mr Shepherd, from consultancy firm IMAG, said twenty years ago annual ryegrass wasn’t the issue it is today. “When I started, you just put Glean# down. It was really simple. It’s a bit more complicated these days.” “Ryegrass is our biggest challenge in the sense that it's a prolific seeder, widespread and has the ability to survive in this cropping cycle. The Group 2s (formerly Group B) are pretty well shot for a lot of people or certainly a lot less effective than they used to be. We need new tools as well to manage it.” Overwatch® Herbicide, from FMC, is a new option that was used in the region for the first time last season.
