Strategies for weed control vital for crops

Controlling weeds in a mixed farming or continuous cropping enterprise is a continuous challenge for Central West NSW private agronomist, Steve Todd. Mr Todd is based in Forbes and consults for a group of clients from Grenfell in the south through to Condobolin in the north. “Mother Nature's always throwing something at us. There are plenty of challenges. Weeds are one of the major burdens. It is about working with clients to come up with the best strategies to remain sustainable but also remain profitable." He said the region is largely mixed farming but there are also clients keen on continuous cropping. “The weeds are a continuous challenge. I don't know if we are winning the battle. I guess we're holding our heads above water." Overwatch® Herbicide was released by FMC in 2021 as a Group 13 (formerly Q) pre-emergent option for control of a wide range of weed species in wheat, barley and canola. Mr Todd said he used Overwatch® Herbicide across all three crops and was impressed with the results.
