Fall armyworm has become a growing issue across the Southern Great Plains, particularly in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas, as elevated temperatures have created an ideal environment for these highly destructive pests.
With significant damage occurring in early-planted, dual-purpose wheat, it’s crucial for growers to know when to scout and how to best protect their crops. When fall armyworm pests are left unmanaged, maturing larvae can destroy crops as they continue feeding on sprouting wheat leaves. If temperatures remain consistently warm, fall armyworms can extend feeding activity well into the late fall season.
