Xyway™ brand fungicides – Xyway™ 3D fungicide and Xyway™ LFR^® fungicide – are FRAC Group 3 demethylation inhibiting fungicides with the active ingredient flutriafol. Both products can be applied in the soil near the seed for root uptake and translocation throughout the plant for activity against numerous fungal pathogens. The systemic, long residual activity results in foliar disease protection throughout the growing season against key yield-limiting corn diseases.

There are many potential causes leading to emergence delays and uneven plant populations. Typically, these situations involve cold soil temperatures, reduced GDU accumulation, high salt content from starter fertilizers, planting depth, seed quality, seed orientation and soil or side-wall compaction. Oftentimes there are multiple stress factors contributing to delayed emergence.

One primary method of metabolism of flutriafol in plants is by cytochrome P450 enzymes. Cold soil conditions can hinder this process and, much like situations involving herbicide crop response, the seedlings may take longer to emerge. Under favorable conditions, this phenomenon is minimized or is a non-issue.

Recovery typically occurs shortly after the return of favorable weather, soil temperatures and growing conditions. FMC and university research over the last several years with Xyway brand fungicides has shown that, in most cases where a delay or uneven emergence occurred, the corn rapidly recovered. In favorable conditions, the impact of Xyway brand fungicides goes to work to improve corn root development, carbohydrate transport and disease protection throughout the growing season.
