When it comes to getting corn and soybeans off to a clean, strong start, early-season weed control is essential. Broadleaf weeds and tough grasses can compete with emerging crops for water, nutrients and sunlight, putting stress on young seedlings and altering canopy growth. Left unmanaged, growers may experience a significant reduction in yield potential
Anthem® NXT herbicide is a preemergence and early postemergence herbicide, built to help growers control annual grasses, palmer amaranth, waterhemp, pigweed (redroot and smooth), common purslane, velvetleaf, Eastern black nightshade and more.
Powered by two modes of action – pyroxasulfone (Group 15) and fluthiacet-methyl (Group 14) – Anthem® NXT provides both residual control and burndown activity, helping create cleaner fields and stronger roots for optimal growth.
Two modes of action, one strong defense
Applied before weed seeds germinate, pyroxasulfone is the longest lasting Group 15 available. By creating a protective barrier within topsoil, it targets fatty acid biosynthesis within weeds, which is essential for healthy cell membrane development. Without functional cell membranes, weeds die before they emerge, eliminating early-season competition for valuable resources.
Fluthiacet-methyl is absorbed through the leaves of small, emerged broadleaf weeds, where it triggers the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). These reactive molecules rapidly damage cell membranes, causing weeds to dry out and die within days.
Built with flexibility in mind
Anthem® NXT can be easily integrated into most programs, with application options for preplant, preemergence or even early postemergence applications. Its low use rate of 2.0 to 6.5 fl. oz./A in corn and 2.0 to 5.7 fl. oz/A in soybeans – depending on soil type – makes it easy to incorporate into existing programs. When weather delays fieldwork or changing conditions require flexibility, growers have multiple application windows to help keep weed control, under control.
For corn growers facing pressure from waterhemp, palmer amaranth, annual grasses and more, Anthem® NXT is the perfect anchor product for its seamless integration, wide application window – from postemergence through V8 – and a flexible use rate that allows growers to mix their own tank mix formulation to the ideal specs for their fields.
It also pairs well with other herbicides, including FMC’s Authority® brand herbicides. Applying an Authority® brand herbicide preemergence and following up with an application of Anthem® NXT 14-28 days later creates the longest-lasting overlapping residual herbicide strategy to help soybeans reach canopy closure weed free.
How can I stay ahead of early weed control pressure?
Getting ahead of weeds early gives corn and soybeans the best opportunity to establish strong, healthy growth. For flexible preemergence and early postemergence herbicide control of broadleaf weeds and grasses, Anthem® NXT herbicide delivers reliable performance in both corn and soybean fields.
