Purple blotch

Further information

Click to open/close

Purple blotch (Alternaria porri) is a major fungal disease affecting allium crops, particularly shallots, garlic, and onions. Initial symptoms appear as small, water-soaked, whitish lesions that rapidly enlarge into sunken, elliptical purple spots with reddish-brown margins. Under humid conditions, the lesion surface turns dark due to mass spore production, leading to leaf lodging, desiccation, and poor bulb development.
