Stem rot (Sclerotium rolfsii / Phytophthora nicotianae / Fusarium spp.) is a destructive disease targeting the base or vascular tissues of the main stem in crops such as maize, chili, and soybean. The infection causes stem tissues to soften, decay, and turn dark brown or black, disrupting water and nutrient transport. This leads to sudden leaf wilting, stem lodging or breakage, and rapid plant death.
