Downy mildew is a major disease caused by fungus-like organisms that is highly destructive to crops like maize, melons, and cucumbers. Distinctive symptoms include chlorotic (yellowish) streaks extending along the leaves, followed by the appearance of a white, downy growth on the underside of the leaves, leading to stunted growth and failure to yield.
